As women sometimes it can get overwhelming with life in general.

The responsibilities we sometimes bear drive us to the brink of depression and insanity but some of us still manage to maintain our 'Fly'.

As the end of 2019 drew nearer conversations of reminiscence amongst some of my close girlfriends led us to active a vital tool we forgot we lost, 'Each Other'. Flashback to 2004 we were all 15 years younger and had lots of time to hang out and bounce simple issues off each other on a daily basis as Elorine ran a bar and restaurant and that served as an almost daily meeting spot. we ate, we chatted, celebrated birthdays, consoled each other and got great ideas all at that same spot. However, the building that housed our sanctuary got sold and almost most like an act of the universe so did other things. Jobs changed, people moved, babies were born and businesses got more demanding. Our focus was now pigeon-holed on life immediately around us and as so many women do we started to fade into the background, becoming the wind beneath others' wings. Mark you, there is nothing wrong with being in that position but, when the self is neglected too often, the self is bound to slowly fall apart.

It was still the unexpected meetings by chance and random calls amongst us that helped to anchor us in some way or the other. Then like a stroke of genius two weeks before Christmas Elorine & Vanessa came up with the same idea. Why don't we make an effort to make time for ourselves during the holidays? Why hadn't we thought of this before? It was too perfect, plus living alone with a home with a garden made me the perfect host...I was game. Boxing Day, the day after Christmas was still a holiday and usually is when you really need to recuperate after the insanity of the formalities. As so, December 26, 2019, was the first official meeting of the 'Women of Excel'. Although the group is five of us other issues say Patrice being absent but totally missed.

The evening was all about us, wine, good food, and conversation. There was music in the mix but we were all too excited to see each other and too involved in unloading some of the stresses of life that no one even noticed. This was what we all needed, right then and there. But, why wait for years for it to happy again? Ohh no. This has to be a constant thing, so we vowed to dedicate one day of each month to hang out with each other. I know it sounds like an expensive venture but trust me it wasn't. We all pitched in and made it a fancy garden party.

Check out the next blog post to see what on the menu and how things were set up. And look out for the post about the January gathering of the 'Women of Excel'.
